to melbourne and back again

Where have I been? you might be asking!
Then again, you might not but I'm going to tell you anyway!

We are all back from a mini holiday. Of course I had every intention of letting you know I was taking a little break but as usual I was doing last minute preparations (when will I ever learn!) and writing a chatty blog post wasn't going to happen!

Some lovely young friends were getting married, so a set of fancy celebration clothes were called for! When you don't spend much time at balls and parties, then, alas, you tend not to have many ball gowns to choose from and after a mad thought of making several, I opted to make one and trawl op shops for the others!
So, my Fairy was clad in a lovely little yellow, satin creation (that is not quite finished in this photo and was eventually hemmed on the morning, ahem!) while Elli and I opted for a couple of nice pre loved dresses from an op shop. And I have to say, that while I had a bit of a moan when I was told the wedding would be black tie formal - when we went dress shopping and found the perfect one, it was so much fun!! The lady in the oppy must have smiled at our excitement!

So here are most of my lot looking absolutely dashing and urbane in their glad rags! We really did have a beautiful, warm day which is always a good thing when you are not wearing much! (Unless you're a bloke in a suit, of course!)

One of the reasons why I was so very busy until the last day was the wedding gift. I have always said that I would make all my children a quilt for their wedding and although George isn't one of mine, he is my oldest sons best mate and has spent a lot of time with us since he was very young. He feels like he's a little bit mine and I love him dearly, so what better way to let him know, than to make him and his new bride something handmade to snuggle under? It was a huge quilt, a queen size one, and quilting all the layers together was an effort on my old sewing machine. We managed, my Pfaff and I, but there was a small amount of cursing involved and a resolve that the next quilt would be professionally done by someone with a bigger machine!!!
Needless to say, the newly weds loved it!

In amongst that frantic rush we also managed to celebrate Remo's birthday. He is our second son and just turned 19. 19! Soon I will have four children in their twenties and when I think about it, it really wasn't all that long ago when I had four under 10! A new chapter in my life is just beginning!

So now we are home again and trying to get back into a rhythm. There is so much to catch up on, things that were left while I sewed and sewed. Fortunately I have two lovely Helpx girls from France staying here and they are peeling apples to bottle, while I am writing this! These are my first helpers and I only have them because my friend didn't have room for them to stay, but I'm loving it! There will definitely be more!

Thanks for visiting!!

Oh yes please, do leave a comment! I will admit I don't always answer, although I do mean to, but I always read them and love to hear what you say!
