The sun did not shine.
It was too wet to play.
So we sat in the house all that cold, cold, wet day.
(Dr Suess - The Cat in the Hat)
And, yes, thats about how it went today! Although, only I sat in the house all day - the rest went off to a nearby town to pay a visit to the Guinea Pig Show! Apparently some of the younger family members (and the Best Man who was in charge) were very keen to smuggle a piggy or three home. It was only the good sense shown by Miss Elli that put a stop to such an outlandish notion..... after all we already have 4 sweet piggies munching away the lawn and producing large quantities of poo and spent hay!
It was, however, just the right sort of day for a spot of painting - obviously they both had sun and rainbows in mind, which was a good thing on a rainy day! You know, I was never a fan of painting with my older kids (when they were young) and I am sure they will forever feel deprived of the glorious opportunity to splatter bright colours across paper and table. Fortunately, I revised my anti painting stance in time for the last few children to really let their creative juices flow. And fortunately, too, they are old enough to clean up after themselves now!!
Which leaves me with the nicer task of baking something delicious for afternoon tea - Ginger Biscuits. And 'Stress Ease'* tea in my lovely thrifted teapot (which doesn't actually pour without being very drippy and leaving soggy biscuits for the unwary)! But its a nice shade of green and one must persevere for the sake of beauty, no?
* Yes the tea was necessary when all family members are squashed into a small, small cabin on a cold, cold, wet day ;o)
Tea (& Biscuits/Cake) are always necessary! Mmmm, ginger...a recipe you would care to share? We're all fans here...
ReplyDeletePainting is fun anytime. Unfortunately though, my boys seem to prefer the messy kind most of the time!
PS - LOVE the teapot. Green is my favourite colour and Cat in the Hat is possibly my fave Dr Seuss book.
Lots of smiles from me ;)
I love that rainbow and my son sitting behind me likes the looks of your Ginger biscuits. Sounds like a lovely afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog the other day, it's been fun to see a peek into your corner of the world.
