Well!!! I didn't mean to be away this long! I'm trying to juggle a lot of balls at the moment and sadly some of them keep falling...... actually I've never been very good at keeping all of them in the air at once and have finally resigned myself to that fact!
I can write out and keep a menu plan going and I can keep the garden watered, weeded and mulched but oh dear, the washing isn't done nor have the children got fresh sheets.
I can sew wonderful clothes, create fancy decorations and crochet a rag rug but oops, the lesson schedule hasn't been started yet and that email I meant to reply to? Forgotten!
Is it just me? Do other mamas get it all done without forgetting/not noticing/disregarding other bits? Perhaps there are just too many balls that I'm trying to keep aloft....I don't know.
So let me move on to what I had wanted to share last week after I posted about the fairy party.... the crown! Oh and I just have to add that some of you thought I'd organised that gorgeous party, but no, not me. It was my lovely friend for her daughter and we were fortunate to get to attend! While we have had some super fun parties for our children over the years, I've never done one with quite so much detail as this one!
In case anyone is interested, the crown was made with a rainbow coloured wool felt outer, cream synthetic felt inner and layer of medium weight vilene in the middle. I hand stitched the flowers with embroidery thread, after pinning them to my satisfaction and tried to sew them so they bunched up a little and stood out. The cream felt lining was added last and all three layers stitched together on the sewing machine. I wanted to hand stitch running stitch all around but ran out of time, although I am very happy with the result. Oh yes, and at the back there is a piece of non roll elastic covered in a scrap of shiny fabric just so it fits that sweet little faery for a while!
So there it is. I can move on now and scoop up another of those fallen balls....perhaps the one named 'plant those winter veggies now or you'll regret it'
...... or maybe the one that says 'Breathe'!!!
Diese Feen krone aus wollnen filz hab ich gebastelt für unsere kleine Freundin zum Geburtstag letzte woche. Gans einfach, nur mit vorne und hinten filz und dazwischen Vlieseline zum ein bissen verstärken.
Hi Evi,
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving your blog. As for juggling, I hadn't realised until I had children that it was a prerequisite!! Sadly, I am also no good at juggling. I tend to be awesome at roughly three things at a time. Everything else sits back and waits for their turn.
Where do you get your rainbow felt from? I assume it is real felt? Also, do you know how to felt wool? Any chance of a blog posts (with pics, for visual learners like me!) on that subject?? Dying to know how.
Thanks,
Nic.
Hee hee Evi.
ReplyDeleteI think we all suffer from dropping those balls! Just some folk keep gliding along as if nothing happened and some of us stop to scoop and stumble! I for one can make quite a mess of it :)
Your crown is really, truly beautiful. What a lucky faery x
I don't have young children and I still need to juggle, and not always very successfully either. I think that you young mums are doing a marvelous job. And that faery crown is gorgeous. Well done and thanks for the dierections/
ReplyDeleteHi Evi, I think all of us 'gardening type/crafty' mums have the same problem.I often think how simpler life would be if I just ironed and cleaned the house -but I don't think we would be as happy as we are right now with the washing in a pile and an art or garden project on the go.
ReplyDeleteHa! Ten minutes ago I stood in the kitchen surveying the mess! The thought process I had was - if I do a short hour in the house but work really fast, then I can get out in the garden. Then I decided maybe I should garden FIRST while it's cool and THEN clean the kitchen! Can you see the gaping holes in my organisational skills?
ReplyDeleteLove the crown! You are such a creative soul! Happy crafting/gardening/cleaning or whatever takes your fancy today!
Thank you all so much for your kind words. I know, I really truly do know, that it's the same for so many of us mums and I am not alone!
ReplyDeleteLike Kim, I sometimes wonder if I should just try and do less of the things that I love and more of the things that I should but I wouldn't really be alive then would I? I'd be feeling frustrated in a different way...... and probably very grumpy and unhappy to boot!!
Nicole, I purchased the felt from Winterwood Toys in Victoria and yes it's wool felt. So pretty! I like your description of "awesome at three things at a time" I think I'll remember that one coz it's better than thinking I'm not "good enough to do it all"!!
Kate, I'm not a young mum anymore *sniff* and had to giggle at the thought!!
Lovely Mama and all you wonderful ladies, I guess this year I have been officially initiated into the ever infinte realm of motherhood and all that it entails. Most days I feel like the member of a circus..! If someone had really explained all this before our first child, would we have beleived them? Thankfully no!
ReplyDeleteMama, I want to make the Elf a crown for her birthday, so I would love a quick lesson when next we gather. I really would like to see this one you made for Moo...it's very beautiful. Actually, I need to get some felt together... hugs
