Salzburg. Home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart....... and multitudes of other people.
More people than I like but fortunately I spend so much time ogling the beautifully decorated buildings and cobbled alleyways, that I don't have time to get completely frustrated by the seething mass of tourists by my side. Of course I do realize that I too, am one of those camera toting tourists, constantly stopping to exclaim how wondrous this view is or how delightful that house is......... and pausing to snap just one more pic!
But, truly, it's all just so beautiful. So many old buildings and all of them are carefully preserved and maintained. I fall in love with each and every old house we see - whether it's a tiny cottage or a sprawling castle, they are all old and have a story, if only the walls could speak! To me, that means these centuries old buildings have soul and character and a secret life that gives them just a touch of mystery.
Today was spent wandering around the Getreidegasse which is in the the Old Stadt (Old Town) part of Salzburg. We wandered past Mozarts birthplace and many tiny shops........Aladdins caves with edible treasures! We were on our way to an afternoon bus tour, so didn't loiter there long - just long enough for me to purchase a bag of Mozart Kugeln, my very favourite chocolate sweet! I wonder if Mozart would approve of his name being used for everything from chocolate to guest houses!!!
Tomorrow we are spending more time IN these little shops as well as a trip to a castle.....can't wait!!
