colour: green

As one would expect, there's a fair amount of vegetative stuff amongst my green pics!
Beans and kale, moss and lettuce, unripe tomatoes, angelica seed-heads and hairy oca leaves.
Green baby, green car, Green Man and a green gift.

Green is my second most favourite colour - only in the last two years or so - but I really love it now!

I haven't searched up much about green but good old Wikipedia seems to have it covered anyway!

I'm a bit stretched for time - I'm leaving on Wednesday - and haven't had a chance to surf the web looking for all things green! In fact, all the rest of these colour days will be posted while I am away..... not sure how it will work out yet, but where there's a will there's a way!!! As usual, I jumped into this without thinking ahead and didn't realise that I'd be posting from 'abroad'!!

So thats about it today. I hope you have fun finding green-ness in your life and do please stop by and peek at other bloggers green 'bits' - it's always nice to feel that your efforts are being appreciated by someone else!

Next week is blue, but remember that the week after is indigo or dark blue.

testing

I'm sending this from my new iPad.

It's going to take a bit of getting used to, I can tell ya! First I need to work out the blogging app - and I've only recently found out what an app is and does! - and then I have to add photos in a completely new way! I'm testing with this post and hoping that the pics are a similar size to my usual ones sent from our Mac.

First time and I'm hoping it all goes alright - after all, I bought this magical little device so I could keep posting in this space as well as keep a record of my travels.

Pics are unrelated but necessary so I can practice!!!

colour: yellow

Ah, yellow, colour of sunshine and bright, sunny flowers!
What can I add to that? Surely it must be a cheery, lifting kind of colour?
For me, when the sun is shining and the world is bathed in brightness and light, I think of it as yellow and warm and glowing! When the first yellow daffodils peep out in the early days of spring, it's as if the sun has risen again and the world suddenly looks a whole lot brighter!

(This is becoming a bit of a recurring theme here, isn't it? Truly, I am grateful for all the seasons in the year - they all have their beauty and purpose. I just can't help feeling a little more alive when the sun returns and banishes the greyness!)

Once again, I trawled around the world, this time looking for some interesting bits about yellow.

Here's some trivia about why Post-it notes were originally yellow.

The meanings of yellow in other cultures is a good read.

A long page about the history of the 'yellow ribbon' - interesting.

And just in case you don't want to spend the time reading those web pages, I've added this little song for you to enjoy..... I've been wanting to try adding a You Tube video here for a while and I'm going to see if I can manage it!

I remember this one from when I was in primary school - I had two older brothers doing their teenage thing and rocking along to the radio in the early 70's.

So, if you have some pics that you would like to show or want to reminisce in your photo 'album' join in the fun and leave a link in Mr Linky so we can all have a peek at your colourful world!

repurposed nappy

One would think that I have enough to do with packing and organising for The Trip, but obviously I like to live on the edge........ and packing has been relegated for next week! Instead, I zipped up these four little bibs out of an old tie dyed nappy that was too thin to use for a tiny bottom. This small girl is a dribbler and badly needed something to catch all that drool - can you see the dark marks on her mamas top?

I sized the pattern to fit four on the nappy and used a selection of leftover flannelettes for the backing, finishing them off with a button and machine made button hole.
That was another item crossed off my ever so long list!!!

And tonight we drew the winner of my give away........ we used the Random Generator Hat and The Mechanical Multicoloured Arm! Well, alright we gave the Best Man the privilege of drawing a name and getting a mention here.....!

So, knitgirl66, I'll be sending you these Tassie goodies just as soon as I can get in touch with you!

Joining in with Natural Suburbias Creative Friday again.
There are always so many creative items over at Linda's on a Friday that I spend too many late nights looking through - well worth it though, just for the inspiration! Thanks Linda!!

lentil pate

Yesterday, Kate over at Purple Pear posted about her challenge to find vegan lunch recipes for her new WWOOFers and it prompted me to post this easy and filling lentil 'pate'. It's not easy feeding vegans because it is a rather restrictive diet (we have tried it) and it's especially hard trying to do it on the cheap.

Lentil and Walnut Pate

1 onion finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
100gm red lentils, rinsed
1 tspn mixed herbs
Bay leaf
Freshly ground black pepper

Fry the onions and garlic in a bit of oil or margarine until lightly browned, then add lentils, herbs, pepper and enough water to cover.
Simmer for about 15 minutes, checking to ensure there's still enough water to stop it from sticking to the bottom.
When the lentils are soft and mushy, remove from heat and add -

100gm ground walnuts
*Tamari to taste

Stir well and watch the colour change!

*The walnuts are finely ground if you put them into a food processor for a whirl and you will need quite a bit of Tamari to flavour it well.
As usual, you can experiment with the flavours and use different herbs!

This 'pate' brings back memories of impromptu picnics when my children were littlies - we used to eat it on corn cakes and I always made a triple batch or more!
Now, when we have it for lunch, we spread it on hearty German rye bread with some fresh parsley, cucumber or tomato. It's quite filling.

Kate, I hope this hits the spot!!!

baby face(s)

I'm still learning how to be a doting grandmother and need reminding every now and again to 'brag' about my beautiful grandchild!
So here are a few pics of her from her last visit, a week ago.

Isn't she adorable?

PS - have you entered the draw for the little giveaway that I'm having? It ends on Friday and you can have a peek here!

colour: orange

I like orange although I don't give it much thought....... it's sort of an in between colour, and I can't think of anything that really jumps out that is the colour orange - not like red fire engines or blue sea or forest of green. Orange just is. It's a comfortable shade somewhere between red and yellow, which are the two colours it's made up of.
When I think of orange I see images of oranges and mandarins on our fruit tree's when we lived in NSW and glorious sunsets but thats about all! Looking back at my photo's, I see that there's obviously a whole lot more!

I spent a bit of time looking for some links about orange and found several (thousand!) but there were a couple that stood out. I linked to this lovely site for 'red', it popped up again and has some really interesting trivia.
There's a short history about orange pigments through the ages and from there, I discovered a stunning orange painting. Have a look at the painting here and read some interesting facts about the artist.

I'll be posting a colour each Monday and would love you to scrounge through your archives and share some of those photo's that you'd forgotten you had!
Remember that you can join in by adding your link to the Linky link below. Please leave a message after you've linked just to say HI!!

Here is my original post and the order of colours.
